Dr. Shafiqul Islam
Dr. Shafiqul Islam is a long-experienced bureaucrat who worked both in field level implementation
and national policymaking in Bangladesh. Before the present portfolio, he has served as an Assistant
Commissioner and Magistrate, AC land, NDC, DDLG, DRRO, and Upazila Nirbahi Officer in various districts and subdistricts. During these tenures, along with regular duties, he published historical accounts of Matlab Upazila, established Upazila Education Trust, achieved the best UNO award, and participated in many reform initiatives. His 15 years career in civil service is enriched with development administration, land management, judicial service, local government, and human resource development, He participated in many national and international training programs and implemented the learnings in his working capacity. He completed PhD focusing political economy in public fund distribution from Griffith University, Australia. During his PhD program, he was selected as an International HDR ambassador of Eight Queensland Universities of Australia and his role
contributed to increasing the employability of HDR students. He has several publications in peer- reviewed International Journals. Besides this, he writes stories, poems, columns on various issues published in daily newspapers. His expertise focused on diverged subjects including Public Administration, Public Policy, Local Government, Political Economy, Public Policy, Research, Disaster Management, and Climate Change Adaptation. His long-cherished goal to be ‘a practitioner and researcher in the public sector’ is now a reality. He loves to encourage and motivate young generations to come to the public sector for working as a practitioner and a researcher.
