Mijanur Rahman

Vice-Chancellor, Jagannath University

Dr. Mijanur Rahman, a professor of Marketing Department, Dhaka University joined Jagannath University as the Vice-Chancellor on 20 March 2013. Now he is working as the Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University for the second term after being appointed by the honourable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

Professor Dr. Mijanur Rahman was born in 1958 in a renowned Muslim family of Comilla. He passed his SSC in 1973 from Bibir Bazar high school and HSC in 1975 from Comilla Victoria Govt. College. He then took admission in the Marketing Department of Dhaka University in 1976 and completed his bachelor's and master's degrees. Further, he obtained his Ph.D. in Business Administration in 1994 from Aligarh Muslim University, a prestigious educational institution of the sub-continent. Throughout his student life he was known as a very bright student. Professor Dr. Mijanur Rahman joined the Marketing Department of University of Rajshahi as a Lecturer in 1982 leaving his lucrative position in Bangladesh civil service. In 1986 he joined Dhaka University and was appointed as a Professor of Marketing in 1999. He has published twenty-five research articles in national and international journals. In 1992 Bangla Academy published his research-based book titled Marketing of Agricultural Products (two parts). Moreover, he has authored other popular and well-read books like Marketing, Marketing for Bachelor Students, Principles of Marketing, and Marketing (simplified version). He has also written four well-known books titled Bangabandhu Bangali and Bangladesh, Spirit of Independence War and Development Thoughts, Post-Democracy and Lincoln's People, Bangabandhu: A Great Hero of All-time focusing on the political perspectives of the independence war and contemporary affairs. Along with teaching, he is also playing a vital role in the social sector. He has played a leading role in all the progressive youth movements of Bangladesh. While working as the Treasurer of Dhaka University, he made a substantial contribution to its academic and infrastructural developments. Professor Dr. Mijanur Rahman has carried out various important administrative responsibilities as well. He was the chairman of Sheikh Burhanuddin College, a council member of ICMA Bangladesh, director of Maksons Spinning, finance committee member of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC), syndicate member of Pabna Science and Technology University and BRAC University. At present he is a syndicate member of Rabindra University Bangladesh, Comilla University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Bangladesh Textile University and North-South University. Besides, Professor Dr. Mijanur Rahman is also serving as the independent director of ICB's subsidiary AMCL and Bangladesh National Insurance Company. Moreover, he is the incumbent president of Marketing Department's Alumni Association, Dhaka University and Marketers' Institute Bangladesh. He has attended numerous seminars and conferences, and delivered keynote speeches on Bangladesh affairs as a visiting professor in many countries including India, Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, Bulgaria, UK, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, USA, Nepal, Norway, Turkey, Maldives, SriLanka, and Canada.

As far as Professor Dr. Mijanur Rahman’s family is concerned, renowned painter Nazma Akter is his spouse. His only son Aninda Rahman is currently studying at SOAS University of London and his daughter-in-law Nazia Afrin Monami is a news editor of Somoy TV. His only grandson, Anush, is very close to him and his eternal source of inspiration.
